APPLIED STATISTICS
Prerequisites: Probability theory and statistics. Matrix algebra.
Aims of the subject: Principles of statistical thinking and statistical inference. Understanding some statistical procedures, explanation the results of statistical evaluations. Solving problems and examples from business world and marketing. Integration theory and use of statistical software packages (NCSS, SPSS Student Version) with decision making procedures.

- Basic definitions of probability theory, basic rules
- Distributions of discrete and continuous random variables
- Samples and sampling distributions, confidence intervals
- Hypothesis testing: definitions and steps
- Tests concerning population means
- Hypotheses about population proportions
- Design of experiments and ANOVA
- Simple linear regression, least square method
- Multiple linear regression model. Assumptions, tests in linear model
- Time series and description of their components. Trend analysis
- Forecasting. Seasonality and cyclical behaviour
- Categorical variables. Contingency tables. Chi-square test
Assessment strategy and method:
Solving exercises, written test, exam.
